Higher Education

More than 31 colleges and universities are located within a 150-mile radius of the Mid-Ohio Valley. Choices for higher education include degree programs, vocation training, or non-credit continuing education.


WVU-PWest Virginia University-Parkersburg was established in 1961. Located on Rt. 47, approximately four miles east of Parkersburg, it was first a branch of WVU, and then a community college. In 1989, it was designated as a regional campus of WVU for a seven-county area.

The College enrolls nearly 3,500 students in degree programs, and more than 3,000 in non-credit classes, seminars, and workshops.

Accredited by the North Central Association of College and Schools, WVU-P offers career programs, Associate Degrees, and Baccalaureate Degrees. Graduate-level programs are also available through West Virginia University and Marshall University Graduate College.

 

OVCOhio Valley University is a fully-accredited Christian liberal arts university, offering Baccalaureate and Associate Degrees in business, education, liberal arts, psychology, and Bible.

The University is a growing institution which is located on 247 acres at 4501 Parkway in Parkersburg. Its goal is to develop its students academically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

 

Mountain State College is an accredited business college that has been in existence for more than 100 years. It is at the corner of Spring and Sixteenth Streets. Program offerings include travel and tourism, computer technology, secretarial science, medical transcription, accounting and management.

 

Caperton Center for Applied TechnologyThe Caperton Center for Applied Technology is a partnership of Wood County Schools and West Virginia University at Parkersburg.The new building is located on the WVU-P campus on Rt. 47. High school and college faculty share offices, classrooms, and even students. High school juniors and seniors attend classes with college and adult students. The Center encourages further development by offering industry the opportunity to use the facility for training and development purposes.
