The Mid-Ohio Valley has good health care with two major acute-care hospitals, a rehabilitation hospital, an active Public Health Department, and many taxsupported and volunteer agencies. There are numerous treatment options for special needs, such as mental and emotional problems, physical therapy, and long-term care.
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, 800 Garfield Ave., is a 343-bed, not-for-profit, accredited, acute care facility, with a 25-bed skilled nursing unit. The hospital provides a broad range of services supported by advanced medical technology and a highly trained staff.
The 200 physicians at CCMH represent all major specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, oncology, anesthesia, family practice, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency services, pathology, radiology, and radiation therapy. Supporting these physicians are 1,300 employees and 550 volunteers.
Camden-Clark offers a variety of community education programs and seminars, including diabetes education workshops, television forums, CPR classes, first aid classes, cancer seminars, and cardiac rehabilitation education.
The Pediatrics Department promotes family involvement, which is critical to a child’s recovery.
The Special Delivery Unit features one spacious, private birthing suite for the entire hospital stay.
Camden-Clark has been designated as a Community Comprehensive Cancer Program by the ACS Commission on Cancer.
The CCMH Emergency Department provides 24-hour physician coverage.
Camden-Clark’s Housecalls Home Health and Hospice offers complete home care services, including physical therapy, speech therapy, and skilled nursing, as well as complete hospice care for the terminally ill and their families.
Cardiac services include stress testing, echocardiography, and provision of cardiac catheterization.
St. Joseph's Hospital is a 325-bed facility accredited by the Join Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO.) Supported by state-of-the-art technology and a team of dedicated employees and physicians, St. Joseph's offers comprehensive acute medical care and surgical services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
In addition to being named a Top 100 Hospital in the year 2000, St. Joseph's celebrated its 100 years of operation with the completion of a $21 million three-story addition for new and expanded emergency, surgical and cardiac services.
St. Joseph's Hospital offers 24-hour emergency and trauma care in its 20-bed Emergency Department. An Emergency Express is available form 11am. - 11pm daily for minor emergencies. The Heart Center at St. Joseph's Hospital treats patients suffering from heart disease, offering cardiac catheterization, pacemaker implantation, stress testing, cardiac rehabilitation, angioplasty and the only open-heart surgery program with a 90-mile radius.
The hospital provides the following surgical specialties in its new 8 suite-surgical unit: general, neurosurgery, orthopedic, urology, plastic, ENT, cardiac, dental and oral surgery. There is a new state-of-the art 23-bed same day surgery area for outpatients with a separate staff-supervised recovery area.
Women's and children's services include spacious labor and delivery rooms, newborn nursery, a 15-bed OB/GYN unit and a 17-bed pediatric unit.
Other services at St. Joseph's include hospitalists, intensivists, a comprehensive laboratory, a blood bank, MRC, CT, bone density, nuclear medicine, mobile PET, gastroenterology, lithotripsy, sleep lab, helipad, pulmonary rehabilitation and pastoral care. The hospital also provides diabetes education, CPR and childbirth education courses.
HealthSouth Western Hills Regional Rehabilitation Hospital is a 40-bed facility designed to assist persons recovering from a disability caused by illness or injury. Once admitted, each person receives an individualized treatment program provided by an interdisciplinary team.
The goal is to help patients return to their optimum function and normal daily activities. Once patients are discharged to go home, they can continue their rehabilitation in the Day Hospital.
Outpatient programs include sports medicine, occupational health, balance and ambulation clinic, as well at physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and psychology services. The hospital
is at 3 Western Hills Dr.
The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department’s goal is to protect and improve public health by preventing illness, disease and disability, and to promote coordination and use of community services within
a six-county region. It has three main branches, with offices at 211 Sixth St.
Public Health Nursing is directed by a physician to serve individuals and families. A children’s clinic provides health services, immunizations, and developmental screening for residents up to 21 years of age.
The Department also provides a WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Support Program for families who meet certain nutritional and financial guidelines. Other services include family planning, adult health, HIV and sexually transmitted disease clinics, and blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer screenings.
Home Health Agency, which is primarily for Medicare patients, provides home care with visits by nurses, therapists, and dieticians. The Sanitation Department inspects schools, restaurants, nursing homes, hotels, dairy farms, and slaughterhouses to protect public health.
Westbrook Health Services at 2121 Seventh St. is a private non-profit organization with a staff of mental health professionals. This agency provides outpatient assessment, treatment, and referral services in mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse.
Worthington Center, Inc., located at Core Rd. and on Emerson Ave., offers a wide range of counseling and treatment options for emotional disorders, marital and family problems, substance abuse, trauma survival and medication management. It is directed by a well-trained staff of psychiatrists.
Other sources for information and assistance within the Valley include the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Association for Retarded Citizens (Wood County Chapter.) All have local offices.
